The United States Armored Cruiser Brooklyn was a key vessel in the Battle of Santiago de Cuba on 3 July, in which the Spanish Fleet was destroyed. It is referred to as the USS Brooklyn (ACR-3/CA-3). The United States Armored Cruiser New York (also known as USS New York ACR-2/CA-2) was the second United States Navy armored cruiser so designated; the first was the ill-fated Maine, which was soon redesignated a second-class battleship. Due to the unusually protracted construction of Maine, New York was actually the first armored cruiser to enter U.S. Navy service. .

The Buoy Takes to the Water. How to Plant a Mooring Buoy, in a series of difficult lessons by Coast Guard Buoy Tender, LAUREL. The 20 ton weight of the mooring buoy, as the LAUREL's powerful boom lowers over the side, makes the ship list a little on that side. As a buoy should, this one, despite its weight, has buoyancy of vast power. The job of holding so much thick chain necessitates its large size. Before the buoy is lowered, the chain which is to connect up with the big anchors is made fast on its underside. The chain, which is to run out later, is still faked down on the tender's deck. Note: These scenes of Coast Guard action are laid in a Greenland Fjord.
