British Overseas Airways Corporation and Qantas, 1940-1945. Short S.30 'C' Class Empire Flying Boat, G-AFCZ 'Clare' of BOAC, moored at Gibraltar after flying King George of Greece and Sir Stafford Cripps to the colony for a visit. On 12 October 1941, 'Clare' made BOAC's first flight to Cairo, routed through Lisbon, Gibraltar and Malta. She was destroyed by fire off Bathurst, West Africa, on 14 September 1942.

New Dual-Control Delta In Flight -- Here's the first in-flight picture of Britain's new dual-control, Avro (A.V. Roe) delta-wing 707C Research plane. The first flight was made July 1, from Waddington airfield at Lincoln near the A.V. Roe works. The 707C Powered by a Rolls Royce derwent engine, is designed to assist pilots in flight familiarization with with deltas, hence the dual control. Flying-Boat Men Build A Glider - First Of Its Kind In The World -- The grace ful gull-winged 'Nimbus' as it circled Rochester Airport for 25 minutes at during the trail.The prototype of an entirely new glider, the short 'Nimbus', has been successfully tested at Rochester Airport (Kent). The glider was designed by members of the technical staff of Short Brothers (famed builders of giant flying-boats). ***** Rochester - the technicians formed themselves into a gliding club some time ago. The Nimbus has proved so it successful that it is to be put into commercial production it will be manufactured at. Belfast (Northern Ireland) and marketed at a cost of £750 , ex works.
