The Guards Are Home After 10 Years -- The 2nd Battalion Coldstream Guards mounting the Guard at Buckingham Palace.After an absence of ten years the 2nd Battalion Coldstream Guards are back in London. In the meantime they have added to their laurels at Dunkirk, in North Africa and Italy, and are the first Regular Guards Battalion to return to London in all this time. To-day they took over the Buckingham Palace Guard. The king, who is Colonel-in-Chief of the Coldstream Guards, was present at the mounting of the Guard, and shook hands with every member of the old and new guard. November 7, 1946.

Sea Ranger Row The Princess -- Princess Margaret had a day with the Sea Rangers yesterday. As their Commodore, she went to Portsmouth to inspect 100 girls doing seamanship training aboard the training ship Foudroyant. Ships in the harbour were dressed overall as the Princess, in Sea Rangers' uniforms was rowed out to the 133-year-old man-o'-war in a boat manned by six Sea Rangers. She had tea in the ship. The Medal He Will Never See -- When his Unit came under tremendous gunfire during a landing at Walcheren in 1944, Sergeant Major Edward Lund of the Highland Light Infantry crossed and re-crossed the bullet-swept area to bring in the wounded. Many lives he saved when on one such journey he was blown up by a mine. He was blinded. Yesterday Lund, a Hartlepool man was led to The King to receive the George Medal at an investiture in Buckingham Palace. Lund with his wife and daughter after the investiture. Peter Churchill show their awards to Mr. Sansom's daughter Francoise after the investiture at Buckingham Palace this morning (Tuesday). Mrs. Odette Sansom, imprisoned and tortured by the Gestapo when serving with the French Resistance Movement, was decorated with the George Cross by his Majesty the King at Buckingham Palace this morning (Tuesday). Also at the Palace this morning, to receive the Distinguished Service Order, was Mrs. Sansom's Commanding officer in the Movement. November 19, 1946.

On the quay for the sub-sea service barracks, the sub-sea service (OZD) receives a banner as appreciation for the performance delivered in the Second World War (WW2). Best of course, which is awarded by Queen Juliana, 2 promotions: South China Sea 1941-'42 and Mediterranean Sea 1941-'42. The military Willems-order 4th class (MWO4) awarded in 1947 is also confirmed. After the DEPILÉ, a reception is held in the OZD building, where Queen Juliana receives a coat of arms and an allemantine of the OZD's commander.

The ***** Lady Brabourne is Lord Brabourne's mother. Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten, Royal Navy (who renounced his title as Prince Philip of Greece following his British naturalisation) was at Northolt Aerodrome, near London, to bid farewell to his uncle, Viscount Mountbatten when with Viscountess Mountbatten, the Viceroy-Designate left for India to succeed the present Viceroy, Lord Wavell. A guards sergeant held one end of a length of string outside Westminster Abbey yesterday. Another soldier held the other end. And that was the crowd problem over. The string represented the line of troops up to which cheering people will be allowed when the Queen leaves the Coronation coach on June 2. It was the second Sunday morning rehearsal of the Coronation procession. A State landau, with its blinds down, left Buckingham Palace at 8 o'clock and stopped at the entrance to Westminster Abbey at 8.33. Bowler-hatted officials from the Ministry of Works paced solemnly with the police beside the landau, which was drawn by Windsor greys.
