In September 1945, 20,000 British troops of the 20th Indian Division occupied Saigon under the command of General Sir Douglas David Gracey. During the Potsdam Conference in July 1945, the Allies had agreed on Britain taking control of Vietnam south of the 16th parallel (then part of French Indochina) from the Japanese occupiers. Meanwhile, Ho Chi Minh proclaimed Vietnamese independence from French rule and major pro-independence and anti-French demonstrations were held in Saigon. Ho Chi Minh was the leader of the communist Viet Minh. The French, anxious to retain their colony, persuaded Gracey's Commander in Chief, Lord Mountbatten, to authorise Gracey to declare martial law. Fearing a communist takeover of Vietnam, Gracey decided to rearm French citizens who had remained in Saigon. He allowed them to seize control of public buildings from the Viet Minh. In October 1945, as fighting spread throughout the city, Gracey issued guns to the Japanese troops who had surrendered. He used them

In 1772, following the First Partition of Poland, Lvov was annexed by Austria. Known in German as Lemberg, the city became the capital of the Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria. The city grew dramatically under Austrian rule, increasing in population from approximately 30,000 at the time of Austrian annexation in 1772 to 206,100 by 1910. In the early stage of World War I, Lviv was captured by the Russian army in September 1914 but retaken by Austria-Hungary in June the following year. Lviv and its population therefore suffered greatly during the World War as many of the offensives were fought across its local geography causing significant collateral damage and disruption.

A unit of the Bereitschaften. The Volkspolizei-Bereitschaften were paramilitary police units of the German Democratic Republic (East Germany) from 1955 to 1990. The VPB were barracked units of the Volkspolizei for riot control and counterinsurgency with regiment status, under control of the Ministry of the Interior and considered part of the armed forces, but were never part of the National People's Army or the Ministry of National Defence.

Following the defeat of the Ottoman Empire in World War I, the Greek Army occupied Izmir, but the Greek expedition towards central Anatolia turned into a disaster for both that country and for the local Greeks of Turkey. The Turkish Army retook possession of Izmir on 9 September 1922, effectively ending the Greco-Turkish War (1919-1922) in the field. Part of the Greek population of the city was forced to seek refuge in the nearby Greek islands together with the departing Greek troops, while the

Finding of two Abandoned Bombs: in some lots on Cartagena Street next to number 132 and next to the party wall of the San José sanatorium, two Bombs were found yesterday morning, in the shape of a pineapple, loaded, and with their corresponding fuse.
