Five-part Ceiling Decoration for The Great Hall of Soestdijk Palace. Ceiling painting in five parts with the main performance Diana and its groups, painted for the 'large room' of Palace Soestdijk. After restoration in 1983, the round central piece did not appear to be the original ceiling painting nor to be the hand of the Lairesse. The four corner elements contain illusionist architecture elements and reliefs, between which the women with attributes of the hunt and putti are located. The inner ring with a classic embossed yacht scenes and a sacrificial scene to Diana is worn by Kariatides.

In ancient Greek Mythology, the Greek hero Jason sought the Golden Fleece in Colchis to bring it back to his uncle, Pelias, who had usurped the throne of Ioclus from Jason's father. With the aid of Medea, the daughter of Aeetes, the king of Colchis, Jason snatched the fleece. Medea fell in love with Jason and left Colchis with him. Here, Jason, Medea, and the fleece are all on board Jason's ship, the Argo. They are about to kill Medea's brother Absyrtus and toss his limbs overboard to make Aeetes, who was pursuing them, stop to gather his son's remains.

The house is named for its owners, two successful freedmen: Aulus Vettius Conviva, an Augustalis, and Aulus Vettius. The wall frescos, completed following the earthquake of 62 AD, are in the manner art historians term the 'Pompeiian Fourth Style. '

The Triumph of Aemilius Paulus 1789 Carle (Antoine Charles Horace) Vernet French Vernet began this enormous painting with its more than one hundred figures and dozen horses in 1787, and he presented it as his reception piece to the Académie Royale in 1789. Exhibited at the Salons of 1789 and 1791, the paintings ambition and advanced classicism proved a critical success. Vernets unusual format perfectly suits his subject: a procession that allegedly lasted three days, led by Roman general Aemilius Paulus who defeated King Perseus of Macedon in 168 B.C. The general rides in triumph on the gold cart followed by prisoners, including Perseus with his family. In Norse mythology, the giddess idun was the wife of Bragi, the god of poetry. Idun was the custodian of the apples that the Aesir, the main Norse gods, ate to maintain their eternal youth. When Idun was abducted by a giant, the gods began to pale and weaken, and sent Loki to rescue her. This drawing is based on the 1890 painting by J. Doyle Penrose.
