The Royal Navy during the Second World War- Madagascar, April - May 1942 A Grumman Martlet fighter of 888 Squadron, Fleet Air Arm from the aircraft carrier FORMIDABLE flying over HMS WARSPITE while circling to land during operations round Madagascar. The force left Colombo on 24 April and put into the Seychelles on 1 May. The Fleet Air Arm carried out extensive searches and patrols over a wide area during the operation. The covering force then put into Mombasa on 10 May after the operation was concluded.

The Royal Navy during the Second World War- the Campaign in Normandy, June 1944 The King tours the invasion beaches. The motor launch carrying the King from the ARETHUSA to a waiting DUKW or 'duck' off shore making its way through craft of all kinds to the beach. The ML is in the centre with the Union Jack flying at the bows. Note the various types of landing craft that are moored off the invasion beaches some of which have signs on saying what supplies they hold (petrol and water). A large number of barrage balloons can be seen in the distance.

U-boat surrenders At Gibralter - The U-boat steered under British orders, steams, into Gibraltar. When news was received that U. 541 commanded by a much-bemedalled German officer, was heading towards Gibralter in compliance with Doenitz's orders she was instructed to proceed to a pertain position in the straits. Britain naval vessels then set out for the rendezvous. The leading British destroyer. H.M.S. Malcolm, made contact and a party led by two British  submarine officers boarded the U-boat from a Whaler.
