H.M.S. Reclaim which is taking a leading part in rescue operations in the English Channel. Reclaim is the first ship built for the Admiralty specially for submarine rescue work. She is fitted with every latest device to locate sunken submarines and rescue trapped crews, and can explore the ocean bed to a depth of 800 feet. April 19, 1951.

The "Ile de France" Re-Fitted -- The "Ile de France" in the concluding stages of her re-fit at St. Nazaire.The great French liner "Ile de France" - fourth largest liner in the world - and used as a troopship during the war, has been re-fitted at St. Nazaire and is expected to make her maiden post-war voyage to New York on July 21st. Wanted - A Mascot For "Monarch" -- H.M.T.S "Monarch" moored in the River Thames while talking on cable.The new Telegraph ship "Monarch" has just been completed for the Postmaster General, and is the largest cable laying and cable repair ship in the world. Her length is 475 ft. overall, 55 6" bean and her gross tonnage is 8,050. She is oil fired and has a speed of 14½ Knots and then on cable laying work will carry a total complement of 160 if necessary.There are 4 cylindrical cable tanks each 41 ft in diameter with a total coiling capacity of 125,000 cubic feet. In 1200 Illegal Refugees Transshipped At Half 3 Days Without Water: 300 Sick -- The Illegal Immigrants being transshipped off Haifa harbour. The small 400-ton four freedoms in which the 1,200 refugees were packed like sardines, is on right, and the empire Heywood, left, the landing barge which bridged the two is between them. Twelve hundred illegal Jewish immigrants were transshipped from a 400-ton ***** ship at Haifa Sept 3. Holed in four places the ship, named four freedoms by the immigrants, was almost unseaworth. Allied Hospital Ship Bombed by Germans - This Allied hospital ship, the Newfoundland, was bombed by German dive bombers off Salerno, Italy, on Sept. 13, 1943. No patients were aboard the vessel when it was attacked. A total of 103 Army nurses aboard were saved but several doctors and nurses were killed. The identification of the Newfoundland as a hospital ship (note crosses on the side of the vessel). However, the Germans attacked despite this identification and despite the bright lights showing at the time. The Newfoundland was damaged beyond salvage and had to be sunk by an Allied warship after all personnel had been removed. November 29, 1943.

The Maria del Mar is a well-known trader between Sydney and Noumea.She has a crew of 15 men, Europeans and natives, and is owned by Captain E. Savoie, of Noumea.Left Sydney - The Marai del Mar left , Sydney on Thursday evening for Coffs Harbor and sailed from there on Saturday for Noumea, with a general cargo.There is no direct clue that the vessel in distress is the Maria del Mar, but the combination of facts leads shipping experts in Sydney to believe it must be.The Maria del Mar was in trouble two years ago. H.M.T. Somali, troopship employed by the British government to carry troops to China and elsewhere. The ship was at Gallipoli in World War One, and had probably been used to transport the 1st Battalion Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers. Date: circa 1914
