West Berliners in the French sector waved to friends and relatives in East Berlin. At Bernauer Strasse they used small ladders, lampposts, and bricks to get a better view across the Berlin Wall. Eventually the East German 'VOPOS' (People's Police) tossed tear gas grenades over the border barrier to break up the gathering. Sept. 13, 1961. (BSLOC_2015_2_264)

Gotta Horsl - But No Paper -- Prince Monolulu, whose 'I gotta horse' is the most famous cry on Britain's race courses, waits patiently - not for a racing tip but for a newspaper, at the head of the now-customary queue outside the London office of the 'Brimingham Post' in Fleet street to-day (Friday). To-day's queue was a repetition of daily scenes this week when Londoners, deprived by the current strike of the 'Nationals,' waited for copies of provincial newspapers. April 1, 1955. If you should be cycling around the Sussex lunea end find yourself with a troublesome puncture you might be glad to see approaching you a follow cyclist wearing a cloth cap, a somewhat weather-beaten belted overcoat and outsize shoes. Who is this bespectacled, pipe-smoking man with the look of a Good Samaritan He might often prove to be the Earl of Clancarty, who lives at Plumpton and spends much of his time earning the title of "The Cycling Earl". Lord Clancarty, sixth holder of the family title, has been cycling or motor-cycling almost as long as he can remember. He built his first motor-bike while a scholar at Repton. January 03, 1951.
