Famous Cyclist Dies: Bob Spears, greatest Australian sprint cyclist of all time, has died in Paris of cancer.Spears, who was 57, became bedridden with cancer shortly after his arrival in Europe in January, on a holiday trip with his American wife, Margaret.He had intended renewing acquaintance with old-time European riders, against whom he had raced.He was cared for by his wife in a small villa at Clarmart, a suburb of Paris. He was later taken to the American Hospital, in Paris. February 16, 1950.
