USA, New York State, Schenectady, Locomotive, Steam gives way to Diesel-Electric engines Schenectady, N.Y. A century of steam locomotive production came to an end at the Americam Locomotive Company Plant in Schenectady, N.Y., June 16, when this steam unit left for Cleveland under its own power. Plant facilities will be devoted entirely to the manufactured of Diesel-Locomotives in the future, since there is little demand for steam units.
