Departure from Rotterdam children to the 'Ostmark', 1940 photograph German authorities including Seyss Inquart say goodbye to hundreds of children who go to the 'Ostmark' (Austria) for a short holiday. Knell Of The "El" -- Shortly before midnight on Dec. 4th; service ceased on the 6th avenue "El". The structure over which has been hauled millions of passengers over the businest five miles of tracks in the world has become a victim of progress. The structure has been standing for over sixty-years. Police on guard on the southbound platform of the station at 53rd stand 8th avenue waiting for the last south-bound train to arrive.
