For a long time now, we have been observing a fellow passenger squinting upward out of a top- deck bus window crossing Sydney's Harbor Bridge, then almost immediately relaxing back into his seat, muttering. There is, we discovered by subtle crossquestioning, a great plaque affixed to the superstructure of the northern upspan. To save him eyestrain and ultimate madness, our photographer did some technical work with a telephoto lens. August 27, 1952.

Looping The Loop With A "Barrier Breaker" -- This is one of a set of photographs taken during a loop by Britain's fastest jet fighter, the Hawker Hunter, flown by chief test pilot Neville Duke. The photographs were taken from a Meteor flying parallel between the wing tips at the start of each loop being only 20 feet. The Hunter was, of course, throttled well below its normal performance so that the Meteor could keep up with it. November 07, 1952.

The Way Home -- "Thats the way" says the statue to the motorists bewildered in London's dense fog. And the pedestrian seems to corroborate it. Or is it the other way *****. Many motorists found themselves in this plight where one of the worst fogs London has known closed down the city already gripped by an iron frost. March 19, 1946.
