Thirteen views of (non-metalwork) sculpture from Museum have been assigned numbers at end of Treasury sequence, but there are no negatives corresponding to these prints, nor is there authoritative evidence that these objects are housed in the Cathedral Museum. German-born photographer and scholar Max Hutzel (1911-1988) photographed in Italy from the early 1960s until his death. The result of this project, referred to by Hutzel as Foto Arte Minore, is thorough documentation of art historical development in Italy up to the 18th century, including objects of the Etruscans and the Romans, as well as early Medieval, Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque Rectangular Linen Chest. Date: ca. 1492-1473 B.C..This simple rectangular box with a flat lid was whitewashed inside and out. Two battens on the underside of the lid hold it in place when closed and battens on the bottom of the box hold it above the floor surface. The box is made of sycamore and the two knobs at the front (one on the box and one on the lid are made of a harder wood, perhaps tamarisk. A length of linen cord was wound around these knobs and a piece of mud applied to the cord was impressed with a square seal.Inside the box were 25 linen sheets, the majority of which had been used before being buried in Hatnefer's tomb (36.3.1). A number of the sheets had ink inscriptions (see 36.3 151). All but one of the sheets had been cleaned and most were folded into small bundles and cWooden banner, vectorSword Grip (Tsuka) with Hilt Collar and Pommel (Fuchigashira). Culture: Japanese. Dimensions: l. 195 cm (76 3/4 in). Dynasty: Dynasty 11. Reign: reign of Mentuhotep II, early. Date: ca. 2051-2030 B.C..This is the outer coffin of the child, Myt. She was buried in a set of two wooden coffins that were laid one inside the other and placed in a limestone sarcophagus. The mummy of Myt showed that she died as a little girl, probably not more than five years old. The embalmers added substantial padding to her feet and her head, which made the mummy much longer so that it looked like that of an adult. Myt's tomb was robbed in antiquity, but her sarcophagus was not opened, and five precious necklaces were still in among the wrappings (see the five necklaces 22.3.320-.324). Myt is the ancient Egyptian word for a female cat, and Myt's name is therefore written with a seated cat hieroglyph (see the left end of the inscription on the front of the coffin). Her coffin also features the so called wedjat eyes that were painted on the side of the coffinFull Rigged Pack-Saddle. Dated: c. 1942. Dimensions: overall: 24.5 x 32.9 cm (9 5/8 x 12 15/16 in.) Known for his studio portraits and stereographic views of Canadian cities and towns, he soon earned a reputation as the "dean" of Canadian photographers, establishing studios throughout Canada and in a dozen American cities. This charming still life is constructed from volumes comprising a typical late-nineteenth-century classical library and features, among many other books, John J. Owen's The Cyropaedia of Xenophon, Spiers and Surenne's French Pronouncing Dictionary (1879), and Ludwig Ramshorn's Latin Synonymes. The photograph is likely a retreat from the artist's daily grind: an intellectual self-portrait made for private delectation rather than commercial consumption.. Still Life with Books.
