The Michaux-Perreaux steam tricycle 1884, Perreaux exhibited a tricycle version of his steam velocipede, with two rear wheels and the belt driving the front wheel, at the Industrial Exhibition on the Champs-Élysées, Paris. The alcohol-fuelled engine had a similar bore and stroke to the original. The water tanks were sufficient for two to three hours of operation, resulting in a range of 30-54 miles

The Benz Patent-Motorwagen Number 3 of 1888 - probably the first petrol car brought into England. A three-wheeled vehicle with a horizontal single cylinder motor. This vehicle was used by Bertha Benz for the first long distance journey by automobile (more than 106 km or sixty miles). Without her husband's prior knowledge, she drove 106km to visit her Mother, stopping at Pharmacies en route for fuel and in turn inventing brake pad lining to solve the tricky situation of braking on hills! 1888

Lieutenant Waghorn's Travelling Carriage, 1845. British naval officer Thomas Fletcher Waghorn pioneered a new route from Great Britain to India overland through Egypt before the construction of the Suez Canal in the 1860s. Waghorn claimed his route reduced the journey from over 11,000 miles (18,000 km) to 6,000 miles (9,700 km), taking between 35 and 45 days. At the time, steamships carrying mail took about three months to sail via the Cape of Good Hope. Waghorn's route consisted of a combination of steamship and horses. This illustration dates to the 1870s and shows Merryweather's Steam Fire Engine. Merryweather & Sons was an 1800s firm in the Clapham (later Greenwich) section of London that produced steam fire engines and steam tram engines. They had vertical boiler (as seen here) that they put onto a platform that was then drawn by horses. It improved fire pressure - great for fighting fires.
