Front: Trowel between four crowns. Reverse: inscription. On the occasion of the laying of the first stone of the Rijpenhofje on the Rozengracht in Amsterdam, 30 May 1736. The Rijpenhofje has originated to the Amsterdam Baptist merchant Gerard van de Rijp, who died in 1735. In his will he had stipulated that a sum of 20,000 guilders had to be spent on the purchase of some houses to turn it into a courtyard and another 20,000 guilders for maintenance and for the 'preuves', the (mostly annual) benefits on The residents. A year after his death, the heirs bought two houses on the Rozengracht and converted it "into a completely peaker founded or hofje".
