Los Angeles, California: 1931 Dr. Clarence "Bud" Houser will leave his dental practice to try and stage a comeback in defense of his Olympic gold medals in the discus in 1924 and 1928. He also won the gold medal in the shotput in 1924.

Operation Televised. A television camera follows the movements of surgeons during an operation at Leiden Hospital, Holland. The complete operation was viewed by 200 medical men and students in the lecture hall in another wing of the hospital. This is the first time surgery has been televised in Europe. April 29, 1949. A New Instrument, the electron-cephalograph or brain-flow-writer has been used in recent amateur boxing championships in Berlin. The instrument has been devised to lessen the danger of injury to health, or even death, to boxers. A Recruit Joins the Royal Air Force As part of his selection board for flying duties at the Royal Air Force Depot at Uxbridge, new recruit Michael Suthers undergoes a thorough medical examination, which includes a test to assess the strength of his lungs.

After seeing how much his own three children bounced about in ordinary children's cots, Mr. Alfred Foster has invented a portable, collapsible cot so strong that the whole family could sleep in it if necessary. And, as you see, he proved his point by getting into it with his wife and two-year-old son, Melvyn, when he demonstrated it at the Nursing Exhibition, which opened in London yesterday. "It's actually been designed for hospital use, to suit any age from the youngest baby to the four or five-year-old, " Mr. Foster explained. He is now producing a similar smaller cot for the ordinary home - price 77s. 6d. - which will take a child from birth till it is ready to go into a full -sized bed.
