Admiralty Built Tanker For Australian Government - Mrs. Foley performing the naming ceremony.The fast replenishment tanker "Tide Austral" has just been launched at the Musgrave Yard of Messrs Harland and Wolff Ltd at Belfast. The naming ceremony was performed by Mrs. Foley, wife of Captain J.B. Foley, C.B.E.. A.D.C.. R.A.N.. Royal Australian Naval Liaison officer, London, who was also present. A bottle of Australian wine was used in naming the vessel.The main machinery for the vessel is by Harland and Wolff Ltd. Of extreme length of 583 feet (550 feet between perpendiculars) the "Tide Austral" has a beam of 71 feet and deadweight of 17,700mtons. September 3, 1954. (Photo by Fox Photos).

At the press site, thousands of news reporters from the world over watched, taking many pictures, as the Saturn V launch vehicle (AS-506) lifted off to start Apollo 11 on its historic mission to land on the Moon. The total number of news people officially registered to cover the launch was 3,497. The craft lifted off from launch pad 39 at Kennedy Space Flight Center (KSC) on July 16, 1969. A three man crew included astronauts Neil A. Armstrong, commander; Michael Collins, Command Module(CM) pilot; and Edwin E. Aldrin Jr., Lunar Module (LM) pilot. The mission finalized with splashdown into the Pacific Ocean on July 24, 1969. With the success of Apollo 11, the national objective to land men on the Moon and return them safely to Earth had been accomplished. The Saturn V was developed by the Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) under the direction of Werher von Braun.

Aviation in Britain Before the First World War Cody aircraft mark IC (Cathedral - so named because of its size and the size of the hangar it required and the katahedral (lower at the wing tips) arrangement of the wings) in front of the shed with a very large crowd packed around it. The bikes on which many of them road to Laffan's Plain one can be clearly seen. The aircraft was altered several more times, here the additional elevators at the side of the central one (which has now been split in two down the centre) are missing, the rudder is in the original position above the elevator, a tail skid and balancing planes have been added between the wings on the rear outer struts. Particularly with his earlier aircraft Cody made constant adjustments to the arrangement of the flying surfaces, often after crashes, in order to obtain better performance and handling. These changes mean that identifying specific sub-marks of Cody aircraft can at times be very difficult, it should also be remember

Aviation in Britain Before the First World War A good view of Nulli Secundus II emerging from 'B' balloon shed. A large crowd outside the fence looks on. There is also a large number of people stood around the entrance to the airship shed. This was an enlarged version of the original Nulli Secundus and used the same Antoinette Engine. The airship was only operated for around two months before being scrapped.
