American coal dumped on Quai St. Bernard in Paris, France. The coal was almost completely submerged by the rising Seine River. Luckily, the river had reached its limit of flood height, preventing the coal from being a total loss. Taken on January 6, 1919, by Photographer Number RECO 3-1-19.

Forced to live in Tjideng Camp, with little food or water and no issue of clothing during their incarceration, they presented a pitiable sight even to those who had become hardened to scenes such as these. Madrid, 09/24/1928. The tragic staircase. Site where the greatest number of corpses appeared, which obstructed the entire hole. In the photograph you can see a crutch and a pile of crepe, which with other clothes were left there.

Many people in London lost their homes and no less than fourteen their lives during the terrible floods of January 1928. Owning to the meeting of an abnormally high spring tide with a great volume of flood water the Thames suddenly burst its banks at several points. The districts which suffered most were Westminster, Putney and Hammersmith. In many places basements were completely submerged and pressure of the water caused houses to collapse. Date: 1928
