Title print for Germania Inferior, Pieter van der Keere, 1622 print Title print for 'Germania inferior' with a triumphal arch in the middle, flanked by two women. The woman on the right holds a broom and a sign with 'ratio' in her hands and the woman on the left has a palm branch and an olive branch. The bow is decorated with the weapons of 'The seventeen provinces'. On the arch is a richly dressed woman on a lion. She is surrounded by attributes that represent the prosperity of the provinces, such as the Mercury Staff, a boat and the Armillarium on her lap. Mercury is right next to her and Neptunus is holding the boat on the left. The three are flanked by a personification of the invention of book printing, left, and a personification of the discovery of the compass on the right.
