Geyser Spring Made 1875-1899 Saratoga Springs. Text printed on reverse of stereocard This Wonderful Mineral Fountain was discovered in February, 1870. It was developed by experimental drilling in the sold rick. It is located in the ìCoeesa Valley,î near Cady Hill, on the Ballston road, one and a half miles south of the principal hotels at Saratoga Springs. The water vein was struck by the drill in the birdseye limestone, one hundred and fifty feet beneath the surface rock. The water immediately commenced spouting at the surface, being forced up from the depths of the earth by the pressure of its own carbonic acid gas, spouting through an inch nozzle to the height of thirty feet. During the season of 1873 over 150,000 persons visited the Geyser Spring, and the universal testimony of all is that the waters are the best and the Spring the most wonderful in the world.. Investigating atmospheric electricity in normal cloudy conditions, but not during a thunderstorm. GF: windlass for raising and lowering a kite. AB: wooden frame supported by mahogony legs with glass cones covered with brass funnels to prevent glass getting wet. H: drawing spark from conductor and experiencing shock similar in strength to that from a fully charged Leyden jar. Leyden jar was attached to conductor, but it was not fully charged. Engraving from 'Practical Electricity and Galvanism' by John Cuthbertson (London, 1807).

War work at the Golden, Colorado station of the U.S. Bureau of Mines, led by Dr. R. B. Moore. The team is conducting research to discover new methods of obtaining vanadium. This work is part of the war effort and is documented in Photographers Number 56673, taken in November 1918.
