Portrait of Ferdinand I of Austria on horseback. Ferdinand I of Austria (1503-1564), at the age of 35. He was the second son of Philip the clean and only brother of Karel V, chosen in 1531 to Roman King, and married since 1521 with Anna van Austria (1503-1547). Pictured in Maliënkolder on galloping horse. He stands upright in the stirrups, as the knights were depicted in the time of Dürer. Top left the weapon of the cream drawing with the order of the golden fleece.

He was named professor at the National School of Decorative Arts in 1874.
