Colt's revolvers had a rotating cylinder that could be loaded with several rounds and fired quickly by cocking and releasing the hammer or, in later models, by simply pulling the trigger. Early Colt firearms used percussion ignition and had to be loaded with powder, bullets, and ignition caps in separate operations. After 1870, Colt models were produced for self-contained cartridges that are much like modern pistol ammunition.First manufactured by Colt's factory in Peterson, New Jersey (1836-42), from 1847, the revolvers were made at a much larger plant in Hartford, Connecticut. A special workshop at the Hartford factory employed highly skilled decorators and artisans, many of German origin. Their ornamentaSteel Trammel on a white backgroundIron cannon. A string, which is rolled down around the sleeve, can be attached to a moving machine component with an end, so that the sleeve is running at every stroke and then back into its original position through the rolled spring in the sleeve. A paper is attached to the sleeve. In the body, a piston rod is applied under a spring, which is moved up and down by steam or vacuum. With the tap on the underside, the body is screwed onto the cylinder, so that the piston of the indicator is equal to the piston of the steam engine and proportionally with the steam and vacuum pressure moves down. Two hunting weapons, shotguns, long guns with engraving, shooting license and gun ownership licenseCollection Of Firearms Antiques Cased Colt Model 1862 Police Revolver, Serial no. 9174, with Thuer Conversion for Self-contained Cartridges, and Accessories. Coiled around the front end of this cannon barrel is a serpent, reflecting the cannon type (serpentine), a medieval weapon with a relatively long barrel and light construction. In the 16th century, large artillery were given names of birds of prey or other predatory animals, such as falcon, serpent, or basilisk. Following this tradition, the Renaissance artist who made this piece used the surface of the barrel as a ground for applied and relief decorationóstanding lions, fire-breathing dragons, striking serpents, arched dolphins, heraldic devices, and symbolic representations of classical Roman and Greek heroes. In addition to the serpent, the artist sculpted twin handles as dolphins. The crossbow remained popular, however, as a sporting weapon for target shooting and particularly for the hunt, because of its precision, quiet discharge, and the range of its projectilesup to four hundred yards, depending on the size of the weapon. Heavy crossbows, widely used in central Europe for big-game hunting, had massive gun-shaped stocks, often veneered or inlaid with engraved staghorn. While the bows and the release mechanisms were the work of specialists, the stocks were made by the same artisans and decorators who provided stocks for firearms. Lighter forms of the crossbow evolved in Italy and France. These prodds,Vintage pistol decorated with ornaments, made of wooden and metal parts.
