Alycidon Welcomed 'Home' By The Derbys -- Alycidon receives a smiling welcome from Lord and Lady Derby (on right). after his victory. Looted forward to as a contest between two of the greatest horses trained in Britain since before World War II - Lord Derby's Alycidon and Mr. William Woodward's American-bred black Tarquin - the race for the gold cup was won at Ascot to-day (Thursday) by Alycidon (ridden by D. Smith) with black Tarquin (ridden by Australian jockey L. Britt) second. Mr. J.S. Davies's heron bridge (ridden by;T. Congratulations! - Mr. Churchill's Horse Wins at Hurst Park. Mr. Churchill has a pat for his horse, Colonist II, which won the Winston Churchill Stakes run here. Colonist 11 was ridden by Gosling. The King's horse, above board, was second, with Star Spangled Banner, third. May 14, 1951.
