Four-Year Task Begins On Ascot Rececourse -- Surveyors at work on the paddock bend infornt of the Grandstands at Ascot. The New Mile, which is at an acute angle to the stands, is to be moved, and the hill at the start levelled.Work has now started on the plan, adopted last year, to alter the whole lay-out of Ascot race course, which is to be widened, slopes levelled, and corners reshaped. The scheme, which is not expected to be completed until 1952, will make Ascot the finest course in the world. All spectators in the stands and most on the Heath will be able to see the horses for the full distance, even in the longest races. Whilat the work is going on, racing is to continue on the existing course. October 20, 1948. (Photo by Fox).
