SS ANDREA DORIA - SS STOCKHOLM Collision. At Logan Airport, Boston, Mass., one of the critically injured survivors from the SS STOCKHOLM is lifted by Coast Guardsmen into an ambulance waiting to transfer him to the U.S. Public Health Service Hospital in Brighton. CDR Thomas Dixon, Surgeon, U.S. Public Health Service, working with the Coast Guard, bends over patient at right. The patient was one of the four critically injured survivors transported to Boston in a Coast Guard UF-1G amphibious plane from Nantucket Island where treatment was first administered at the hospital there. Originally five injured were airlifted from the SS STOCKHOLM in U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Air Force helicopters and flown to Nantucket. One died enroute to the hospital.

U.S. Coast Guardsman Wounded in Africa. Coast Guardsman Richard L. Bucheit, of 301 Brussels St., St. Marys, Pennsylvania, who was strafed by enemy airplane machine gun bullets as he landed troops in the attack on the African coast, is shown being attended by a nurse at an East coast hospital. He was returned to this country on a troop transport manned by Coast Guardsmen that took part in the African campaign.

Reportage on family carers. A family carer is a person who helps someone in their family when they lose their autonomy, due to illness or old age. Marie-France and her sister look after their 98-year old mother on a daily basis. She has been unable to walk for several years. The situation of family carers is largely unknown in France, to such an extent that in many cases, carers don't even know they are carers. Yet there are 8.3 million people aged 16 or over, who regularly help out at one of their close family member's homes.

Dr. Apgar with nurse and newborn infant. Dr. Virginia Apgar (1909-1974), was an American obstetrical anesthesiologist who is best known as the inventor of the Apgar score. The Apgar score is a method to quickly assess the health of newborns based on five criteria: skin color, pulse rate, reflex irritability grimace, activity and respiratory effort. Newborns are evaluated at one and five minutes after birth and the score ranges from zero to 10.

Although he is lying on his back in St. Vincent's Hospital, with his leg in the air, Brent has had his time taken up with painting and basket-making. And he's so good at both, that the nurses in St. Luke's Ward have begun to ask him for presents. "But they aren't all going to get them because I'd be here for a year making them," Brent said today. The lad, who lives in Bell Street, Preston, fractured his pelvis when he slipped from the swing bridge at Coburg on August 2. September 23, 1954.$

New York, New York: c. 1928 A motion picture patron at the Roxy Theatre gets treated for a sore throat in the movie theater's hospital. It can handle everything from emergency appendectomies to panic attacks to child care. Twelve specialists are on call for the operating room, and there are alo two wards and private rooms to ensure that all goes smoothly for the attending audience.
