Austrian ***** -- The Austrian Federal Chancellor Dr. Figl giving a pint of his blood to the Red Cross.Starting their widespread drive to recruit blood donors in Austria this week, the Red Cross were indeed lucky when one of the first donors to volunteer was the Federal Chancellor himself - Dr. Figl.50,000 transfusions are needed every year in Austria and while most other countries have a free 'Blood Scheme' Austria does not. The blood donor there can make quite a good thing out of it, the cost of a transfusion is 220 schillings - 40 for the Technical Assistants and 180 for the donor. October 01, 1952.
