Ministry Of National Insurance Central Office: Records Branch - Shuttle Cards Homeward Bound -- Outgoing shuttle cards and other documents are sent to the Office Distribution Section for transmission to the National Insurance Office of origin. To facilitate speed in the internal distribution of shuttle cards are correspondence, a Pneumatic Tube system was installed by Lamson Engineering Co. Ltd. The whole system emanates from two Central Desks situated at the sorting and mail sections. Birth of a Gun- the Production of a 25 Pounder Field Gun, 1942 A factory worker at work on the production of a 25 pounder field gun. He holds one end of the huge ingot of molten steel as it is twisted, pulled and pushed under the blows of a hammer, to shape it into the barrel of 25 pounder gun.

European Volunteer workers -- Two male volunteers are shown how to do their work by an English foreman (right).Under the Government scheme for the recruitment of men and women for the under-manned industries, a large number of people from the Displaced Persons Camp in the British Zone of Germany have volunteered.Known as European Volunteer Workers, they receive the Some pay and general conditions as would British workers, of whom there are insufficient to fill these special jobs.Their contract is for one year after which the general position of each Industry will be reviewed, with a possible offer to the workers of permanent settlement in this country. European Volunteer Workers are mostly accommodated in well appointed hostels, although a number have been allowed to go into private lodgings where these are available. September 13, 1951. On charcoal gas, this truck at the Melbourne University does 50 miles an hour. Charcoal is burned in the big container, and the gas is passed through pipes to be cooled and cleaned, and is then conveyed to the engine. The three men who are working to perfect the method are: Dr. W. M. Woods (right), Mr. W. B. Kennedy (centre), and Mr. J. M.
