Among these back-of-the scenes employees is Louwitte, head of the 20th century-Fox special effects department, shown here among some of the guns which comprise his studio's arsenal. The entire stock consists of 5,603 practical pistols, 15,000 odd rifles, 34 machine guns, 19 heavy artillery pieces, and numerous civil war cannon, modern mortars and Hotchkiss one-Pounders purchased from the surplus stores of 18 foreign governments. Many of the machine guns used in the film, "Guadalcanal Diary," were made in the studio's machine shops. White has been at the second for 28 years. December 14, 1951.
