Princess Louise's wedding gifts, 1871. Royal wedding of Princess Louise (fourth daughter of Queen Victoria) and her husband John Campbell, 9th Duke of Argyll. 'Locket given by the Princess to each of her Bridesmaids. Bible and Casket given to the Princess by the Maidens of England. Bracelet given to the Princess by the Bridesmaids...The locket given by her Royal Highness to the bridesmaids was manufactured by Messrs. London and Ryder. 'Three of the handsome pieces of plate made for this year's prizes at the Ascot Races...The Ascot Cup is not a cup properly speaking, but a table ornament, or "surtout de table," consisting of a silver stand, bearing a large tazza for flowers, in the centre, and at each end a smaller one for fruit. In front of the central stem is an equestrian group, representing the champion knight on horseback, with his squire or page blowing a note of challenge on the horn. Extremely lavishly fitted out, this yacht was given a radical design, supposedly based on the shape of a turbot.  This flat fish design, 235 foot long, 153 foot wide at it's beamiest and with only 6 foot draught, was very unsuccessful, with passengers complaining of extreme seasickness.  The 'Livadia' was broken up in 1927.     Date: 1880A Ducking Stool; this method  of punishment was devised in  the late 16th century.
