First Trieste Emigrants Leave For Australia -- A Trieste family waves to friends and relatives as they go aboard the liner..About 650 emigrants left Trieste a few days ago, aboard the liner S.S. Castelverde.There are the first of about 2,100 workers from Trieste and refugees from the Giulia region, who are leaving their country through a special agreement with the Australian authorities.The emigrants will arrive in Melbourne within 25 days to take up jobs in agriculture and industry. Scrap Torch Set to Hitler's $4,000,000 Yacht -- Norman K. Foy (right center, wearing welder's goggles) of the National Production Authority, puts a cutting torch to the stern of the $4,000,000 Grille, one-time luxury yacht presented to Adolph Hitler by the German people, during ceremonies in a scrapyard here today. The ceremony sent the yacht on its way as scrap metal for defense. Watching are Army, Navy and Marine Corps officials. During the second proof of the pool star (A 835), the new supply ship for the Royal Navy, it is once again tested whether everything works properly and whether the changes made are now also meet all the requirements. Jewish Immigrants Freed From Cyprus -- Happy Jewish immigrants line the rails of the "Galila" as it docks at Halfa, January 25. The first stage of "Operation Resque" finished January 25 when the SS "Galila" from Cyprus with 1,500 Jewish immigrants docked at Halfa. They were welcomed by Moshe Shapira, Minister of immigration and by Government and Jewish agency officials. The Jews had been living in British camps in Cyprus, some of them since November 1947.
