The Busy Civilian Doctor - Dressing station at factory where the doctor is responsible for the well-being of some 1,300 workers. The cut/thumb is efficiently and quickly dressed while the other casualties wait.There is an acute shortage of civilian doctors. Many are grievously overworked, none so more than the average general practitioner. These pictures were obtained with the special co-operation of the British Medical Association, and show a record of the principal events in a twenty four hour period, from noon Tuesday to noon Wednesday in a normal week, though the doctor must remain anonymous for reasons of professional etiquette. For the same reason pictures do not give a recognizable portrait of him. September 18, 1951. (Photo by Topical Press).

Guy's Hospital- Life in a London Hospital, England, 1941 Patients that are only 'slightly-injured' settle down for the night in the ward adjoining the surgery at Guy's Hospital. An almoner pours tea, whilst nurses tend to the patients. This area is really more like a corridor or waiting area, and there is a sign for the almoner's office above a door on the right hand side of the photograph.

He must then give his x-ray identification card to the x-ray operator before he is exposed to the x-ray.

Soon after the Mooltan Anchored in Gage Roads today, excitement was caused when four men, followed by a nurse, took of a stretcher case. The patient was not a smallpox victim, but a young woman suffering from an acute abdominal condition which necessitated an immediate Major operation. Her vaccinal condition was satisfactory and after her clothes had been disinfected, she was taken by launch to Fremantle and from three transferred to the Royal Perth Hospital. June 01, 1949.

Guy's Hospital- Life in a London Hospital, England, 1941 The student doctor acting as 'tally man' gathers information from a policeman about a casualty that has just been brought in to Guy's Hospital in London in 1941. Police officers were heavily involved in rescue work, and often were the only ones able to provide any information about a casualty.
