The fighting involved local Rifains and the Spanish Army, who had tried (unsuccessfully) to gain control over the mining area close to Melilla. First state convention, of the Women's Auxiliary of the Keeley League, Dwight, Illinois, June 27-28, 1893. The Keeley Institute was founded in 1879 by Leslie Keeley to treat alcoholics with injections of proprietary components, sometimes called the 'gold treatment'. The shots often made the patient quite sick, during which he was also allowed abundant alcohol, perhaps offering a combination of placebo and aversion therapy. Keeley claimed 'Drunkenness is a disease and I can cure it'  (BSLOC_2020_2_127)
