A Going! A Going!!! June 10, 1809 Thomas Rowlandson A grotesquely obese doctor stands at left looking at his old and emaciated patient seated in an armchair. A round table is by the patient's side with a bowl, medicine-bottle, and a paper that reads: "Prescriptions, Bolus, Blisters." An array of medicine bottles are on the windowsill at center. The doctor says: "My Dear Sir you look this Morning the Picture of health I have no doubt at my next visit I shall find you intirely cured of all your earthly infirmitys.". A Going! A Going!!!. Mesmer's tub at his consulting room in parish which opened soon after his treatise 'Memoire sur la decouverte de magnetism animal' in 1779. Tub was a vat of dilute sulphuric acid and patients at therapy sessions sat around it either holding hands, or holding one of the iron bars projecting from it. After print published 1779.

Medical Dispatch or Doctor Doubledose Killing Two Birds with One Stone November 20, 1810 Thomas Rowlandson An elderly woman sits in an armchair while a doctor holds her wrist and puts his arm around a young woman who leans on the back of the chair. They gaze into each other's eyes. On the table at the old woman's elbow are medicine vials, a bowl of "Composing Draught," and a pill-box inscribed "Opium." This is a crowded scene from the East London Hospital for Children and Dispensary for Women, situated at Ratcliff Cross near Stepney railway station. It was started around 1869 by the enterprising benevolence of a newly married couple, Mr. Nathaniel Heckford, sometime house surgeon of the London Hospital, and his wife, a volunteer nurse in an East End cholera hospital.
