The ROKs Have a Fighting Navy -- Within throwing distance of the ROK Navy ships tied up at a South Korea port, this cobbler plies his trade at the dockside Note shoe repairing paraphernalia in foreground.The Republic of Korea has a Navy of approximately 50 ships and ten thousand officers and men. Whatever the ROKs lack in numbers they more than make up for in fighting spirit. To the ROKs falls the lion's share of the close inshore patrol and blockade of the long Korean coastline, a job that calls for their shallow draft craft and their aggressive sailors. Detachment 101, an enigmatic Allied intelligence and special operations unit during World War II, played a pivotal role in the Burmese theater. Operating deep in the jungles of Burma, their mission was multi-faceted, encompassing guerrilla warfare, espionage, and sabotage against Japanese forces. Comprising a diverse group of individuals, from OSS agents to indigenous fighters, they effectively disrupted Japanese supply lines, gathered critical intelligence, and supported resistance movements.

Royal Air Force- Italy, the Balkans and South-east Europe, 1942-1945. A ground crew member loads bags of DDT into smoke dispensing equipment, adapted for use as an anti-mosquito spray under the fuselage of a Westland Lysander in Sicily, as the pilots look on. The high incidence of malaria among allied servicemen in the theatre led to extensive spraying of the swamps and areas of water on the island where the malaria-carrying mosquitos bred.

Depth Charges On Board British Destroyers Preparing For Mediterranean -- Depth charges and stores being loaded aboard the "Boadicea" at Portsmouth.Most significant feature of the preparations for sailing is the loading, of depth charges on board the destroyers "Boadicea" and "Boreas" which will leave Portsmouth to-morrow (Thursday) for the Mediterranean for patrol duties under the Nyon piracy pact.Patrol ships have been authorized to sink pirate submarines at sight. Channel Incident- the Production of a Ministry of Information Film, UK, September 1940 Anthony Asquith directs Peggy Ashcroft and Gordon Harker in 'Channel Incident', a film about the evacuation of Dunkirk made by Denham and Pinewood Studios for the Ministry of Information in 1940. The stars are standing on board a motor yacht, named the 'Wanderer' in the film. The continuity girl, two other members of the production crew and the microphone boom are also in picture.

Since there was no possibility to repair the device on site and it was also impossible to take off on the swimy field, the aircraft was dragged to elsewhere by soldiers to become dismantled. Beyond the Call of Duty. America's most prized decoration, the Congressional Medal of Honor, was awarded posthumously Thursday to Coast Guardsman Douglas A. Munro, who died at Guadalcanal. President Roosevelt presented the Medal to the Coast Guardsman's parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Munro of South Cle Elum, Washington, at simple ceremonies in the White House. Munro, shown here in a snapshot taken by a shipmate, gave his life while engaged in evacuating a Marine battalion beleaguered by the Japanese.

China Burma India Theater (CBI) was the name used by the United States Army for its forces operating in conjunction with British and Chinese Allied air and land forces in China, Burma, and India during World War II. Well-known US units in this theater included the Flying Tigers, transport and bomber units flying the Hump, the 1st Air Commando Group, the engineers who built Ledo Road, and the 5307th Composite Unit (Provisional), otherwise known as Merrill's Marauders.

The Royal Navy during the Second World War- the Campaign in Normandy, June 1944 The wireless set being manned by telegraphists from a Royal Navy FOB unit (Forward Observation Bombardment) in the Sword area. The gun crews of the Royal Navy rely on them for correct ranges as they bombard enemy strong-points and gun-nests ashore. It is from here, the forward HQ of the FOB, that the spotting teams move forward, and it is also from where messages are sent to HM Ships and shoots are co-ordinated.
