Cpl. G. F. Carnochan from the Signal Corps took this photograph on September 12, 1918. The image shows the "cootie" machine, a Thresh steam disinfector used by the 26th Division, on the banks of the Marne River in Saacy, France. The machine has its own power source and can be operational within an hour of arrival. Coal briquettes are used as fuel for the machine. This photograph was approved by the A.E.P. censor on September 1, 1918.
