Photograph showing Field-Marshal Montgomery riding a white Arab stallion, Germany, 1945. This horse was procured by the Germany army in 1941, with the intention that General Rommel should ride into Cairo, if the Germans captured the city. They did not, and when the horse was captured at a depot in Schleswig-Holstein, the British sent it to their commander to ride. Date: 18/08/1945

The Allied Advance Into Syria - Axis infiltration into Syria compelled, the advance of the Allied Forces to avert so dangerous a threat. British and Free French Forces have been opposed by the Vichy troops, and there has been hard fighting along the entire front from the Mediterranean to Damascus and Palmyra.Yeomanry have been playing a very important in the advance into Syria, and the picture shows some of them riding up a river bank to cross elswhere. Young Iheya Shima Natives Ride Back to Homes After Invasion. Two young Japanese natives of Iheya Shima stare inquisitively at a Coast Guard combat photographer as he snaps their picture while crossing a bridge on the island in a horse-drawn cart. The natives fled when Yank troops invaded the tiny Ryukyus Island northwest of fallen Okinawa on 3 June, but soon returned to their homes as an occupation government was set up.
