Fernando Francesco dÁvalos, Marquess of Pescara, (1489 December 1525) was an Italian condottiero. General of the Spanish army, in the Italian Wars. At the Battle of Ravenna in 1512 he was taken prisoner by the French, but was released at the conclusion of the War of the League of Cambrai. He was the chief commander of the Habsburg armies in Italy during the Habsburg-Valois Wars.

He also fought in Flanders and seized Antwerp in 1576. Felipe II entrusted him with the surveillance of the coasts of Granada in 1578. Pedro Antonio Veciana (Pere Anton Veciana i Rabassa) (Sarral, ca. 1682-Valls, 1736). Catalan peasant and politician. A supporter of Philip V, he settled in Valls where in 1718 fought against the guerrillas who were rising up against the Bourbons. In 1719 he organised a squadron to defend the town of Valls. Its efficacy meant that it remained a permanent defence corps under his command. He was appointed first commander of the "Escuadras de Cataluña" (Squadrons of Catalonia). Portrait. Engraving.
