"Women munition workers wearing khaki uniforms consisting of blouses and specially designed overalls at Frankfort Arsenal, PA. The uniform is full and buttons around the ankles to prevent powder or flying dust from lodging. The blouse buttons over the overalls instead of underneath, and the overalls button forward. The collar and overall pocket also button tightly. Puttees can be worn with the overalls. The cap is made of lighter fabric and resembles an aviator's cap in shape. The uniform was designed with the help of a committee from Frankford Arsenal, which employs the largest number of women among government plants."

Gaston V. Laine, a U.S. Navy serviceman from Kansas City, Missouri, is pictured on the left. He served at the Hampton Roads Naval Base as part of the Overseas Detail. The man on the right is A. L. Laine, who was born in Nordhouse, Prussia, in 1840. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Civil War from 1861 to 1865. In 1917, he joined the U.S. Naval Reserve Force and was assigned to shore duty as a Captain's Mate at the U.S. Rifle Range in Virginia Beach.
