Fotocollectie Eerste Wereldoorlog. British navy in wartime. Officers of the Ward Room in a battleship drinking to the King. This toast is given every evening after dinner in British Warships, and is drunk sitting, by permission of William IV. The reason of the permission was that on one occasion when the King was dining in the Ward Room, he rose to return thanks after the toast, and bumped his head, owing to the narrow space between the decks in those days. Many officers take advantage of the present King's permission to drink the toast in water.. 1914-1918}

Detachment 101, an enigmatic Allied intelligence and special operations unit during World War II, played a pivotal role in the Burmese theater. Operating deep in the jungles of Burma, their mission was multi-faceted, encompassing guerrilla warfare, espionage, and sabotage against Japanese forces. Comprising a diverse group of individuals, from OSS agents to indigenous fighters, they effectively disrupted Japanese supply lines, gathered critical intelligence, and supported resistance movements.

Italian Prisoners of War in Britain- Everyday Life at An Italian Pow Camp, England, UK, 1945 From a BBC studio, Italian Prisoners of War Maestro Aldo Morbio and Guido Leoni take part in the weekly broadcast 'The Camp Journal' reflecting life at the N.144 workers camp near London. In the period September 1 to December 1, 1964, Smaldeel 1 makes an autumn trip to the Mediterranean region. An extensive travelogue can be read in the Jaarboek Koninklijke Marine 1964 from page 496. On board the cruiser Hr.Ms. De Ruyter (C 801) (1953-1972) is received a group of around 30 orphans. When leaving, clothing and toys were given that the crew was collected in the Netherlands.
