Germany's Military Governor Goes To The Foreign ***** -- General Sir Brian Robertson, Military Governor of the British Zone of Germany, leaving the Foreign Office in Whitehall after a meeting to-day (Monday). General Robertson made an unexpected flight to Britain twenty four hours before his scheduled visit in view of the increased tension in Germany. He is expected to have talks with Foreign Minister Ernest Bevin later in the day. July 12, 1948.

Monty, as he was often referred to, was the commander of Allied forces at the Battle of El Alamein. El Alamein was a major turning point during WW2, by stalling the Axis advance, the Allied victory turned the tide in the North African Campaign. Monty went on to command the British Eighth Army, the Allied 21st Army group, and Operation Market Garden.
