US Civil War. Petersburg Campaign, June 9, 1864 to March 25, 1865. The 'Dictator' siege mortar in front of Petersburg. The weapon fired a 220 pound, 13 inch diameter shell every half hour, with a range of 2.5 miles. Weaving Material For New Barracks -- These Filipines are engaged at a labor camp want of Pinamopoan, Levie Island, in weaving material for a new thatch-roof barracks in the area. Palm fronds are being cleverly interlaces in the process, making a comparatively durable material through which air may circulate to improve living conditions in the humid climate. This ***** normally covers only half the walls, the upper half being left open or ***** in - if there is any screening available. It is said that these structures, made wholly of vegetation from the jungles, will last native people for at least three years but stand up for white men only about 18 months against the onslaughts of heavy rains and wind and of fungi and wood-devouring insect life. Terrorists destroy and burn the possessions of the civilian population, as a result, they try to undermine Dutch authority. They also did not like to have the Batavia-Bandoeng train by blaging the rails to derail and shake on it, allowing some victims to regret. Immediately the repair work started. Well-known US units in this theater included the Flying Tigers, transport and bomber units flying the Hump, the 1st Air Commando Group, the engineers who built Ledo Road, and the 5307th Composite Unit (Provisional), otherwise known as Merrill's Marauders.
