Detachment 101, an enigmatic Allied intelligence and special operations unit during World War II, played a pivotal role in the Burmese theater. Operating deep in the jungles of Burma, their mission was multi-faceted, encompassing guerrilla warfare, espionage, and sabotage against Japanese forces. Comprising a diverse group of individuals, from OSS agents to indigenous fighters, they effectively disrupted Japanese supply lines, gathered critical intelligence, and supported resistance movements.

Coast Guard, shows an artificial lung, left, and a life jacket he obtained from the commander of a Nazi U-boat when the Coast Guard cutter Icarus sank the submarine off the Carolina coast and took 33 prisoners. Lieut. Commander Jester, skipper of the Icarus, was awarded the Navy Cross for his exploit. A former resident of New Dorp, Staten Island, N.Y., his station is now in Miami, Fla.

Coast Guard Combat Artist Depicts French Invasion Action. Aboard a Coast Guard-manned assault transport which landed troops on the Nazi-held coast of France, Coast Guard Combat Artist Robert James Tucker, specialist, third class, of 1838 Hudson Avenue, Chicago, Ill., witnessed a whirl of action which he is "putting on canvas" for the folks back home and for posterity. Little over a year, the brown-haired, blue-eyed artist was free lancing in Chicago, where he attended the American Academy of Art and the Art Institute. The 28-year-old Coast Guardsman has had his artist's materials at sea since last January.
