Royal Air Force- Operations in the Middle East and North Africa, 1940-1943. Pilot Officer C E 'Cas' Casbolt of No. 250 Squadron RAF, at LG 91, Egypt. Casbolt joined the RAF in 1937, qualifying as a sergeant pilot before joining No. 80 Squadron RAF in 1938. He saw action with the Squadron in the Western Desert and in Greece, scoring victories in the Gloster Gladiator and Hawker Hurricane, before being rested after 80 Squadron's withdrawal from Greece in 1941. He was commissioned and then joined No. 250 Squadron, with whom he achieved the last of his 14 confirmed victories on 12 May 1942.

IX Corps Cyclist Battalion, Army Cyclist Corps Lt Gratwicke enlisted in May 1915 and received his commission the following November. He was posted to the Western Front in February 1917 and fought in the Battle of Messines. He was killed near Hamel on the Somme on 30 March 1918. . 2 Battalion (attached 1 Battalion), Devonshire Regiment Corporal May served nearly 10 years with the Devonshire Regiment, prior to being killed, aged 30, at Morval during the Battle of the Somme on 26 September 1916. . 1/5 Battalion, London Regiment (London Rifle Brigade) Sgt Needell enlisted in April 1909. He was killed in action, aged 28, at Wancourt on 2 May 1917. Sgt Needell is buried at Hibers Trench Cemetery. Photograph presented by his wife, Mrs Needell of Teddington. Detachment 101, an enigmatic Allied intelligence and special operations unit during World War II, played a pivotal role in the Burmese theater. Operating deep in the jungles of Burma, their mission was multi-faceted, encompassing guerrilla warfare, espionage, and sabotage against Japanese forces. Comprising a diverse group of individuals, from OSS agents to indigenous fighters, they effectively disrupted Japanese supply lines, gathered critical intelligence, and supported resistance movements.

Royal Air Force Fighter Command, 1939-1945. Squadron Leader B J E 'Sandy' Lane, Officer Commanding No. 19 Squadron RAF, standing in front of his Supermarine Spitfire Mark I at Duxford, Cambridgeshire. Lane joined the RAF in 1936 and flew with Nos. 66 and 213 Squadrons RAF before the outbreak of the Second World War. He joined 19 Squadron as a flight commander in 1939 and became temporary commanding officer when the existing CO was killed over Dunkirk on 25 May 1940. He fought through the Battle of Britain and was formally appointed as the Squadron Commander after the demise of the next CO on 5 September 1940. Between November 1941 and February 1942 Lane served on staff appointments in the Middle East, before returning to the United Kingdom to command No. 61 Operational Training Unit. In December 1942 he was given the command of No. 167 Squadron RAF but was killed four days after his arrival during combat over the Dutch coast with Focke Wulf Fw 190s of 6/JG1

Aged 22, he died of wounds received at Épéhy on the Somme on 22 September 1918. Captain Brown is buried at Five Points Cemetery, Lechelle. A few weeks later, Captain Brown's older brother, Captain Clive Andrews Brown of the Royal Engineers, was also killed, aged 28, on 7 November 1918 (just four days before the Armistice) on the Western Front.
