British Medical Services in the Second World War Medical Transport: Lightly wounded soldiers playing cards in a hospital train in Belgium. Trains were manned by both military and civilian crews, whose job it was to ensure safe and speedy travel to the casualties, including enemy wounded. Although disorganised and damaged by war, trains played an important part in transporting casualties from hospitals and dressing stations to bases and evacuation areas. Casualties who were able to walk were given comfortable saloon coaches for the journey.

The three other waafs with her looked around saw the corporal , went out after tea, waited for him. And when he came out he was hit on the head with lengths of iron piping. He was his so hard his signet ring was broken when he raised one hand to protect himself. Blue Lamp Family When P.C. 50, William Milner, is getting ready to go on duty, he has to be careful to put the right jacket on. Otherwise he might face his sergeant as P.C. 123 - or, worse still, as Policewoman 4. For three police jackets hang in P.C. Milner's hall in Ash-street, Blackpool - his son's and his daughter's as well as his own. Often the trio go on duty together - as in the picture. Son Alan, 25, joined the force when he left the RAF. His sister Eunice, 23, was a secretary in an estate agent's office. But the continual talk by her father and brother about the force decided her to make a change. So she became P.W. 4. She said; "More than once one of the other two has tried to put on my tunic before finding out his mistake. June 19, 1951.
