Royal Air Force 1939-1945- Coastal Command Hugging the Norwegian shore, the German battlecruiser PRINZ EUGEN makes her way southwards while under attack from Coastal Command aircraft on the evening of 17 May 1942. The heavy anti-aircraft barrage she put up shot down three of her attackers, and a follow-up wave was intercepted by enemy fighters and suffered heavy losses. No hits were scored by the RAF, and the ship made Kiel safely the following day.

Cochinchina is a region encompassing the southern third of Vietnam including Saigon, or Ho Chi Minh City. It was a French colony from 1862 to 1948. In 1864, all French territories in southern Vietnam were declared to be the new French colony of Cochinchina, which was to be governed by Admiral Jules Marie Dupre from 1868-74. The later state of South Vietnam was created in 1954 by combining Cochinchina with southern Annam. In Vietnamese, the region is called Nam Bo.

Wolf Rock Keepers Relieved After 100 Days - White capped seas swiri angrily around the base of the Wolf Rock Lighthouse - between Land's End and the Scilly Isles - as, after a 100 days vigil, the keepers are taken by bosun's chair aboard the Trinity House Vessel 'Satellite' at low tide to-day (Friday).
