SS ANDREA DORIA - SS STOCKHOLM Collision. The U.S. Coast Guard buoy tender HORNBEAM from Woods Hole, Mass., takes on board survivors from the SS STOCKHOLM in lifeboats. Forty-five persons from the Swedish liner were rescued by the tender. Many survivors spent the night in lifeboats before rescue craft could locate them because of the fog. Pictured here in the background is the sinking ANDREA DORIA and a drifting lifeboat. Reported position of the sinking was Lat. 40-29°N; Long. 69-50°W. The collision between the SS ANDREA DORIA, a 656-ft., 29,082-ton luxury liner from Genoa, italy, and the SS STOCKHOLM, a 510-ft., 12,644-ton liner from Stockholm, Sweden, occurred in fog about 205 miles east of New York, 55 miles south of Nantucket, on July 26, 1956.

Here's A Harbour Headache -- The Olympic Splendour may be the pride and joy of millionaire shipowner Aristotle Onassis, but to Fremantle Harbour authorities it's just a headache. The whaling tanker, on its maiden voyage, is so modern, so big, that they can't berth it without disrupting other ships. So the Olympic Splendour to day was bustled out to Gage Roads by FHT tugs. There hull until March 7. The big tanker is carrying £1,500,000 worth of whale oil. with other ships of the Onassis fleet, it was recently chased ignominiously from Peruvian waters. March 8, 1955.
