London Merchant Seamen's Home and Red Ensign Club, 1942 Merchant Seaman George Lappin tries on a coat, helped by fellow seaman Albert John Burrett, in the well-equipped shop at the Merchant Seamen's Home and Red Ensign Club. The shop supplies clothing and equipment, which can be seen piled on shelves around the room. The storeman and another seamen can also be seen in the background.

According to the original caption, this is where 'engineering officers deal with the public on faults and service difficulties. The test clerks can reach any required line by dialling and test the exchange equipment and then the subscriber's circuit. They can remain in circuit while the subscriber dials and observe the point at which a fault condition occurs'.
