P-34630 Range 10.5 million kilometers (6.5 million miles) This cylindrical projection view of Neptune uses five narrow-angle images equally spaced around the planet. They were taken by Voyager 2 over the course of a Neptunian day, an interval of about 18 hours. Latitude lines are horizontal in the image, and range from 80 degrees south to 30 degrees north of the equator. Near the center, the Great Dark Spot leaves a disturbed wave-like pattern that stretches around Neptune. Features further south move eastward at speeds up to 400 mph relative to the Great Dark Spot. The features are storms--moving cloud systems that persist for months or longer. The weather forecast for Neptune is therefore continued high winds and cold with little change in temperature.

P-34714 This image of the south polar terrain of Triton reveals about 50 dark plumes or 'wind streaks' on the icy surface. The plumes originate at very dark spots generally a few miles in diameter and some are more than 100 miles long. The spots which clearly mark the source of the dark material may be vents where gas has erupted from beneath the surface and carried dark particles into Triton's nitrogen atmosphere. Southwesterly winds then transported the erupted particles, which formed gradually thinning deposits to the northeast of most vents. It is possible that the eruptions have been driven by seasonal heating of very shallow subsurface deposits of volatiles, and the winds transporting particles similiarly may be seasonal winds. The polar terrain, upon which the dark streaks have been deposited, is a region of bright materials mottled with irregular, somewhat dark patches. The pattern of irregular patches suggests that they may correspond to lag deposits of moderately dark materia

S72-35010 (April 1972) --- The Apollo Program's final manned landing on the moon will explore a site designated Taurus-Littrow on the southeastern rim of the Sea of Serenity. This photograph from the Apollo 15 Metric Camera gives a vertical view of the Apollo 17 landing site at 20 degrees north latitude and 30 degrees east longitude. The site (white cross) is on a dark-cratered plain at the base of light-colored highland mountains. The major scientific objective is to study the highlands for new knowledge about what is believed to be representative of the most ancient part of the moon. The darker material forms a bay amid steep-sided mountains that rise almost 2 kilometers (1 1/4 miles) above the adjacent plain or basin. Mountain slopes in excess of 25 degrees are common. The individual mountain masses and ridges are believed to represent very old highland crustal blocks structurally separated by various basin-forming events. S72-54413 (December 1972) --- A vertical view of the Taurus-Littrow landing area photographed on an earlier Apollo mission from lunar orbit. The mission photograph is surrounded on all sides by a computer-generated 360-degree panorama of the region as seen by an observer at the nominal Apollo 17 Lunar Module landing site. The 360-degree panorama is divided into four sections, north-east-south-west. Each section includes an overlap of about 15 degrees with each adjacent section. The observer's eye level is 1.8 meters above the surface. The features on the panorama are marked by an overlay on the photograph. The panoramic scene was generated by processing a digitized form of the U.S. Army TOPCOM compilation of the terrain contours in the Taurus-Littrow landing area.

Enceladus Rev 91 Flyby - Skeet Shoot #4

Sangay Volcano, Ecuador, erupted in early June, sending lava flows and pyroclastic flows down its southeastern flank. A large ash plume rose above 7 km, and was blown westward by the prevailing winds. Ashfall was reported in several cities downwind. The nighttime thermal infrared image acquired by ASTER on June 11 shows the flows in white, and the large ash plume in dark red-brown, indicating its composition is dominated by ash particles. The image covers an area of 24.5 by 46.8 km, and is located at 2 degrees south, 78.4 degrees west.

Siton Undae is a large dune field located in the northern plains near Escorial Crater. Siton Undae is west of the crater and is one of three dune fields near the crater. The nearby north polar cap is dissected by Chasma Boreale, which exposes an ice free surface. This image was collected during early spring in the northern hemisphere. The bright appearance of the dunes is due to frost cover. As the season progresses the dunes become darker as the frost disappears. The Odyssey spacecraft has spent over 15 years in orbit around Mars, circling the planet more than 69000 times. It holds the record for longest working spacecraft at Mars. THEMIS, the IR/VIS camera system, has collected data for the entire mission and provides images covering all seasons and lighting conditions. Over the years many features of interest have received repeated imaging, building up a suite of images covering the entire feature. Juno's Star Camera Sees Europa Close-Up. Taken by NASA's Juno spacecraft, this black-and-white photo of the surface of Jupiter's icy moon Europa reveals a curious feature - shaped somewhat like the musical symbol for a quarter note - surrounded by a vast network of linear ridges and dark blotches. It was obtained by Juno's Stellar Reference Unit (SRU) during the spacecraft's Sept. 29, 2022, flyby of Europa. The image shows a region crisscrossed with a network of fine grooves and sets of complicated double ridges (pairs of long parallel lines indicating elevated features in the ice). In the upper right corner are dark stains possibly linked to seepage or the bubbling up of liquid from beneath the ice. Just below center and to the right is the surface feature that takes a form like a musical quarter note. Titan (T17) Viewed by Cassini's Radar - Sept. 7, 2006

Today's VIS image is located over Olympia Undae, the largest of several dune fields that surround the north polar cap. The dunes look like salt and pepper against a bright background. The spring arrival of the sun has begun the defrosting process, and most of the dunes are still covered in frost. As the season progresses the dunes will appear darker and darker as the dark sand is revealed from under the bright frost cover. Hills and Ridges on Titan

P-34692 Range 500 km. ( 300 miles ) Smallest Resolvable Feature 900 m. or 2,700 ft. Part of Triton's complex geological history canbe seen in this image, shot by Voyager 2. Part of a sequence, it shows a surface dominated by many roughly circular, polygonal, and arcuate features between 30 and 50 km (18 and 30 miles ) across. Some resemble degraded impact craters of Mars, while others resemble the 'palimpsest' features of Jupiter's satellite Ganymede. Peculiar intersecting, double ridged lines are 15 to 20 km. or 9 to 12 miles wide and hundreds of kilometers long. Theyresemble some deformational belts of Ganymede. Patches of plainsforming material tend to occur in local depressions. The geologic features of Triton and spectroscopic information indicates that the surface of Triton is underlain by a mixture of ices.

Fluid Physics is study of the motion of fluids and the effects of such motion. When a liquid is heated from the bottom to the boiling point in Earth's microgravity, small bubbles of heated gas form near the bottom of the container and are carried to the top of the liquid by gravity-driven convective flows. In the same setup in microgravity, the lack of convection and buoyancy allows the heated gas bubbles to grow larger and remain attached to the container's bottom for a significantly longer period.

The result of this project, referred to by Hutzel as Foto Arte Minore, is thorough documentation of art historical development in Italy up to the 18th century, including objects of the Etruscans and the Romans, as well as early Medieval, Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque monuments. Images are organized by geographic region in Italy, then by province, city, site complex and monument.
