Sir Douglas Copland Of Australia -- Sir Douglas B. Copland. K.B.E. C.M.G. Representative of Australia to the ninth session of the United Nations General Assembly. Sir Douglas who has been High Commissioner for Australia in Canada since May 1953, today was elected Chairman of the Second (Economic and Financial) committee. Sir Douglas was born in Timaru, New Zealand, on 24 February 1894. He was Australia's representative on ECAFE in 1946 and 1947, and in 1946 and 1953 was a delegate to the U.N. General Assembly. He has written many books on economics. He headed his country's delegation to the 17th and 18th sessions of the Economic and Social Council and was elected First Vice-President of the Council and Chairman of its Econcmic Committee.
