Honour Nobel Prizewinners -- Sir Edward Appleton speaking in the Lecture Theatrs of the Royal Institution, London, this afternoon (Friday).Two British scientists who were awarded Nobel Pesos Prizes in 1947 were honoured by the Federation of British Industries at the Royal Institution, Albemarle-street, London, to-day (Friday). Sir Robert Robinson, Ma, D.SC, Ll.D., President of the Royal Society, awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry, spoke on "The Scope of Organic Chemistry", and Sir Edward Appleton, GBE, KCB, MA, D.SC., LI.D., F.R.S., Secretary of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, spoke on "The Scientist in Industry". Former Lord Mayor Discusses King George Memorial -Sir Leslie Boyce, who was Lord Mayor of London at the death of the late king George VI, is pictured here speaking at a conference held at the Mansion house, London, today (Thursday) to discuss the memorial to the late king. Behind him is seated Sir Christopher Chancellor, General Manager of Reuters, who is a member of the executive committee of the king George VI foundation.The responsibility for the memorial fell to Sir Leslie, by tradition, as the lord Mayor at the time of the King's death.It is to take the form of a statue and a philanthropic scheme, financed by the public appeal which has raised £1,665,000.
